En particular est\u00e1 dedicado al estudio de los sistemas complejos com\u00fanmente conocidos como cristales l\u00edquidos. El orden orientacional es el punto clave en estos sistemas y en este sentido se puede hablar de materia blanda con orden orientacional. los cristales l\u00edquidos son compuestos relativamente comunes y por ello est\u00e1n presentes en multitud de aplicaciones: pl\u00e1sticos, fibras textiles, alimentos, cosm\u00e9ticos&#8230; Tambi\u00e9n juegan un papel relevante en aspectos biol\u00f3gicos como la formaci\u00f3n de las membranas celulares, e incluso es posible que jugaran un papel determinante en la formaci\u00f3n del adn. muchas de las aplicaciones donde podemos encontrar este tipo de sistemas involucran la interacci\u00f3n del cristal l\u00edquido con superficies, siendo los dispositivos de visualizaci\u00f3n basados en cristales l\u00edquidos un claro ejemplo. En el desarrollo de esta tesis doctoral se abordan distintos problemas relacionados con esta cuesti\u00f3n desde un punto de vista microsc\u00f3pico, usando el funcional de la densidad como base te\u00f3rica. Se busca comprender como las propiedades microsc\u00f3picas de la interacci\u00f3n entre el cristal l\u00edquido y la superficie afectan al comportamiento del sistema en aspectos como las propiedades de adsorci\u00f3n, wetting o anchoring. Se presta especial atenci\u00f3n a los efectos de capilaridad, tales como el confinamiento de las fases is\u00f3tropa, nem\u00e1tica y esm\u00e9ctica.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos
