Tomando como punto de referencia otros escritos del autor, incluida su celebre \u00ab\u00bbdefensa de la poesia\u00bb\u00bb, se estudian los motivos \u00ab\u00bbextra-literarios por los que sidney convierte en forma de secuencia poetica su anhelo de desempe\u00f1ar un papel mas activo en la vida politica de su pais. Ese anhelo se traduce en una deliberada desviacion de los principios estetico-sociales por los que se regia la poetica petrarquista tradicional. En lo que ata\u00f1e al \u00ab\u00bbacto\u00bb\u00bb de escribir, la \u00ab\u00bbagencia\u00bb\u00bb del poeta, la \u00ab\u00bbescena\u00bb\u00bb cortesana que rodea el poema, y el \u00ab\u00bbproposito\u00bb\u00bb del mismo, sidney se muestra poco conformista con la ideolog\u00eda de la retorica cortesana contemporanea y sienta las bases de una poetica
