Son mol\u00e9culas que funcionan como interruptores moleculares ciclando entre un estado inactivo (unido a gdp) y un estado activo (unido a gtp) y son reguladas por factores intercambiadores de nucle\u00f3tidos de guanina (gefs), prote\u00ednas activadoras de las gtpasas (gaps) y por los inhibidores de la disociaci\u00f3n de nucle\u00f3tidos de guanina gdis. Estas gtpasas, se caracterizan por ser elementos estrat\u00e9gicos en los procesos de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n celular y por especializarse en diferentes funciones. As\u00ed los miembros de la familia rho, entre los que cabe destacar rho, rac y cdc42, regulan procesos fisiol\u00f3gicos como puede ser los cambios en el citoesqueleto de actina, el ciclo celular, procesos de secreci\u00f3n y expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica. La desregulaci\u00f3n estas gtpasas sin embargo, puede llevar a procesos aberrantes como la muerte neuronal por neurotoxicidad y el descontrol de la proliferaci\u00f3n que puede traducirse en procesos
