El iram  es la suma de los \u00edndices de probabilidad de que suceda un accidente (ip) y de la gravedad de sus consecuencias (ig). En su c\u00e1lculo se han tenido en cuenta variables tales como la edad de los buques, su bandera o su tama\u00f1o. Este n\u00famero, en s\u00ed mismo, proporciona una informaci\u00f3n importante para cada tipo de buque, informaci\u00f3n que tendr\u00edamos al alcance de la mano para el estudio de medidas a tomar para disminuir los riesgos en la navegaci\u00f3n o para el establecimiento de medidas de vigilancia y control que eviten la contaminaci\u00f3n del mar.  resumiendo, el problema estriba en determinar qu\u00e9 tipo de buque conlleva mayor riesgo para la navegaci\u00f3n en la zona de estuido. en la presente tesis doctoral la meta es determinar el nivel de riesgo asociado que supone el tr\u00e1fico de buques mercantes que navegan por las aguas espa\u00f1olas del cant\u00e1brico y del noroeste. Con relaci\u00f3n al \u00e1mbito temporal contamos con un hist\u00f3rico de accidentes desde 1992 y de tr\u00e1fico desde 2004. Para el c\u00e1lculo del \u00edndice de riesgo de accidente mar\u00edtimo se ha tenido en cuenta la probabilidad de ocurrencia de siniestros para un determinado tipo de buque y las consecuencias de los mismos, as\u00ed como otras variables medioambientales y operacionales que act\u00faan como \u00edndices correctores del \u00edndice de riesgo por tipo de buque.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
