Muchas y diferentes soluciones han sido propuestas para mejorar el rendimiento del proceso de b\u00fasqueda, pero gran parte de ese trabajo se ha focalizado en subpartes del proceso de b\u00fasqueda, consiguiendo soluciones para aspectos concretos (es decir, extracci\u00f3n de caracter\u00edsticas, medidas de similaridad, indexado, etc&#8230;)  en esta tesis, se presenta una revisi\u00f3n de las principales soluciones para la recuperaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes por contenido especificando algunos de los principales problemas. Despu\u00e9s, proponemos una soluci\u00f3n original para la extracci\u00f3n de objetos relevantes en una imagen y su comparaci\u00f3n en aplicaciones de recuperaci\u00f3n, y se presenta un sistema de recuperaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes completo que emplea dichas aproximaciones (incluyendo medidas de similaridad y indexado de im\u00e1genes). En part\u00edcular, los objectos de las im\u00e1genes son representados por un modelo deformable bidimensional, conocido como \u00abmalla activa\u00bb capaz de adaptarse a zonas relevantes de las im\u00e1genes de acuerdo a la informaci\u00f3n crom\u00e1tica y de formas de las mismas. Se ha extendido el modelo permitiendo a las mallas activas romperse, incrementando de esta forma su capacidad para adaptarse a objetos con formas complejas. Una medida de similaridad entre mallas activas ha sido definida y empleada para combinar el proceso de recuperaci\u00f3n con una eficiente estructura de indexado. El sistema propuesto ha sido expermientado en dos grandes bases de datos publicamente disponibles, conocidas como, la eth-80 y la aloi.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis
