Traducci\u00f3n autom\u00e1tica, requieren una base de conocimiento con que represente la estructura conceptual del sistema cognitivo del ser humano. En otros sistemas, e.G. Indizaci\u00f3n autom\u00e1tica o extracci\u00f3n de informaci\u00f3n, la sem\u00e1ntica superficial puede resultar suficiente, pero la construcci\u00f3n de una base de conocimiento robusta garantiza su uso en la mayor\u00eda de tares para el procesamiento del lenguaje natural, permitiendo as\u00ed la reutilizaci\u00f3n de recursos. A este respecto, esta tesis presenta el dise\u00f1o y desarrollo de una base de conocimiento l\u00e9xico-conceptual multiprop\u00f3sito para el procesamiento del lenguaje natural. Dicha base de conocimiento -desarrollada siguiendo los fundamentos de campos como la ling\u00ed\u00bc\u00edstica computacional, la ingenier\u00eda ontol\u00f3gica y las ciencias cognitivas- tiene la intenci\u00f3n de facilitar a los ingenieros del lenguaje el dise\u00f1o de aplicaciones m\u00e1s \u00abinteligentes\u00bb para el procesamiento del lenguaje natural, particularmente para su comprensi\u00f3n.
