Su econom\u00eda ha sido hasta mediados del siglo xx b\u00e1sicamente de subsistencia, y se ha especializado en la producci\u00f3n ganadera en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os.  el trabajo de campo se desarroll\u00f3 entre junio de 2000 y septiembre de 2002, \u00e9poca durante la cual la autora residi\u00f3 en el propio concejo. La informaci\u00f3n base se obtuvo mediante 83 entrevistas semidirigidas y una continua observaci\u00f3n participante.  los resultados se presentan en forma de texto etnogr\u00e1fico, en que se citan todas las especies utilizadas en la cultura tradicional dentro de su contexto, haciendo especial \u00e9nfasis en el registro del vocabulario local relacionado con cada actividad. Se describe el papel de las plantas en la agricultura, ganader\u00eda, alimentaci\u00f3n, vivienda, oficios tradicionales, medicina y veterinaria, juegos y cultura oral, y creencias y celebraciones tradicionales de pilo\u00f1a.  se obtuvo informaci\u00f3n sobre el uso de 503 t\u00e1xones vegetales, de los cuales 143 son exclusivamente ornamentales. Se recopilaron 759 nombres vern\u00e1culos que se aplican a 412 t\u00e1xones, se discute su significado y aplicaci\u00f3n.  por otra parte, se realiz\u00f3 un muestreo sistem\u00e1tico de los huertos y jardines de 45 viviendas del concejo, anotando la presencia y abundancia de los taxones cultivados. Finalmente, se llev\u00f3 a cabo una encuesta sobre vigencia del saber vigencia del saber etnobot\u00e1nico que se aplic\u00f3 a 132 personas de diferentes poblaciones, sexo y grupos de edad. Los resultados muestran una r\u00e1pida p\u00e9rdida del conocimiento etnobot\u00e1nico en pilo\u00f1a, principalmente entre las personas menores de 60 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
