La hipotermia, una de las m\u00e1s eficaces, junto con los f\u00e1rmacos neuroprotectores, pueden ser una alternativa v\u00e1lida. veintiocho ratas wistar sufrieron isquemia cerebral global de 10 minutos de duraci\u00f3n mediante la combinaci\u00f3n del clampaje carotideo bilateral y la hipotensi\u00f3n controlada (presi\u00f3n arterial media = 45 mmhg). Se utilizaron tres grupos: grupo i o mantenimiento de normotermia; grupo ii, hipotermia moderada (32-33oc) durante dos horas; grupo iii, hipotermia y administraci\u00f3n de mesilato de tirilazad y sulfato de magnesio durante la reperfusi\u00f3n ya las dos horas de realizada la isquemia. A los 7 d\u00edas se sacrificaban los animales y tras el procesamiento del tejido se cuantificaban las neuronas preservadas en la capa ca1 del hipocampo. Existe una mayor preservaci\u00f3n neuronal de forma significativa (p&lt;0,0001) en el grupo iii con respecto al grupo i. Si comparamos los grupos ii y iii, solo se obtienen diferencias significativas (p&lt;0,01) en el lado derecho y en el hipocampo considerado globalmente, a favor del grupo de hipotermia m\u00e1s f\u00e1rmacos. Cuando se comparan los grupos i y ii no existen diferencias significativas. La asociaci\u00f3n de hipotermia moderada, sulfato de magnesio y mesilato de tirilazad en el modelo experimental de isquemia global transitoria utilizada se confirma una medida neuroprotectora eficaz,
