Los sistemas biol\u00f3gicos aerobios presentan elevadas eficacias en la alimentaci\u00f3n de materia org\u00e1nica y s\u00f3lidos en suspensi\u00f3n, necesitan un aporte de energ\u00eda importante para la aireaci\u00f3n de los tanques donde se produce la oxidaci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica e adem\u00e1s, en torno al 50 % de la materia degradada es transformada en biomasa, dando lugar a una elevada producci\u00f3n de lodos que han de ser estabilizados en una etapa posterior, generalmente anaerobia. El gasto energ\u00e9tico y la producci\u00f3n de lodo en exceso representan dos grandes inconvenientes, que repercuten negativamente en el balance econ\u00f3mico y ambiental de estos sistemas.  los sistemas anaerobios para el tratamiento de aguas residuales de la elevada carga, representan en la actualidad una clara alternativa a los sistemas aerobios, por su econom\u00eda, simplicidad y eficacia, y ya hay experiencia de muchas planta en funcionamiento en todo el mundo. Para el tratamiento de aguas dilu\u00eddas, como son las aru, est\u00e1 a\u00fan en periodo de estudio.  el objeto de este trabajo es el estudio de aplicaci\u00f3n de la digesti\u00f3n anaerobia y el tratamiento de aru en reactores de laboratorio a la temperatura de 20\u00c2\u00ba c, pr\u00f3xima a la temperatura de las aguas residuales de la coru\u00f1a. El sistema elegido para hacer el estudio fue el reactor anaerobio del lecho de lodos (uasb).  en la operaci\u00f3n de un reactor uasb de 2 l tratando aru a trh entre 6 y 8 h la eliminaci\u00f3n de dqot se sit\u00faa en 65-70 % y la de sst en el rando de 70-80 %.
