Permite la absorci\u00f3n de fotones de energ\u00eda inferior a dicho gap gracias a una \u00abbanda intermedia\u00bb situada en el seno de \u00e9ste. La fotocorriente, enriquecida por la absorci\u00f3n de fotones de baja energ\u00eda, se inyecta a una tensi\u00f3n elevada -la correspondiente a la separaci\u00f3n entre los pseudoniveles de fermi de portadores mayoritarios en los emisores n+ y p+ entre los que se crece el material de banda intermedia- y s\u00f3lo limitada por el gap primigenio del semiconductor y no por ninguno de los dos \u00absub-gaps\u00bb en los que la banda intermedia divide \u00e9ste. La piedra angular sobre la que se yergue el concepto radica en la coexistencia de tres gases de electrones estad\u00edsticamente descritos por sus propios pseudoniveles de fermi. En los albores de los trabajos recopilados en esta tesis todav\u00eda no se hab\u00eda logrado llevar a la pr\u00e1ctica este concepto, siendo sus prop\u00f3sitos el desarrollo del mismo y el dise\u00f1o y fabricaci\u00f3n de un prototipo basado en la emergente nano tecnolog\u00eda de \u00abpuntos cu\u00e1nticos auto-organizados\u00bb hechos de inas en gaas. El an\u00e1lisis de su espectro de electroluminiscencia sugiere la coexistencia de tres gases de electrones caracterizados por sus correspondientes pseudoniveles de fermi. Su eficiencia cu\u00e1ntica muestra una mayor corriente de cortocircuito que se atribuye a la absorci\u00f3n de fotones de energ\u00eda menor que el gap.
