Al disponer de los antiprogestagenos de sintesis, teniamos un excelente arma para estudiar las acciones de la progesterona.  cuando administramos a ratas ciclicas el antiprogestageno ru486 se produce anovulacion que se revierte con hcg y antiandrognos, aumento de lh basal, de testosterona, estradiol, lh\/fsh, testosterona\/estradiol y de prl asociado a una disminucion de fsh sin cambios en el nivel de progesterona. La necropsia practicada en estos animales refleja un incremento del peso uterino, ovarico e hipofisario. La histolog\u00eda ovarica muestra atresia folicular, formaciones quisticas e hipertecosis.  observando las caracteristicas que debe cumplir un modelo animal para ser considerado valido para una entidad clinica y comparando las caracteristicas de la rata tratada con ru486 con la de otros modelos animales para el sop podemos concluir que la rata tratada con ru486 es un modelo valido para el sop y es el que mas fielmente mimetiza sus caracteristicas.
