Para detectar aislamiento sexual se utilizan tres tipos de experimentos: eleccion de macho, eleccion de hembra y eleccion multiple. La frecuencia estadisticamente significativa mas elevada de apareamientos homogamicos sobre la de apareamientos heterogamicos se considera evidencia de aislamiento sexual. El principal problema de estos tests es la dificultad de separar entre la propension al apareamiento de machos y hembras y la verdadera discriminacion. En este trabajo se analizaron 9 poblaciones de drosophila melanogaster de distinto origen geografico en cuanto a sus niveles de receptividad de las hembras y vigor de los machos. De estas se eligieron 4 que diferian en dichos caracteres y se realizaron con ellas el test de eleccion de macho y el de hembra. No se detecto aislamiento sexual incipiente entre las poblaciones analizadas.
