El sistema de clasificaci\u00f3n propuesto consiste en la combinaci\u00f3n en serie de distintos clasificadores basados en criterios de vecindad. Los clasificadores basados en criterios de vecindad producen una tasa de aciertos satisfactoria en el reconocimiento de caracteres, sin embargo, su coste computacional es elevado. Mediante los clasificadores jer\u00e1rquicos construidos, se consigue mantener la mejor tasa de aciertos alcanzada con clasificadores como el k-nn y el k-ncn reduciendo mucho su coste computacional. Estos resultados se pueden comprobar mediante la experimentaci\u00f3n llevada a cabo para d\u00edgitos, letras may\u00fasculas y letras min\u00fasculas de la base datos nist (national institute of standards and technology). La caracter\u00edstica extra\u00edda de los caracteres ha sido el zoning y se han aplicado tres preprocesos para normalizar los caracteres y mejorar el proceso de reconocimiento.  adem\u00e1s, en este trabajo se presenta una revisi\u00f3n bibliogr\u00e1fica de los m\u00e9todos y t\u00e9cnicas m\u00e1s utilizadas para llevar a cabo las fases de preproceso, extracci\u00f3n de caracter\u00edsticas y
