Ambas levaduras son aerobias facultativas pero difieren en su metabolismo respiro-fermentativo ya que en condiciones aerobias s. Cerevisiae es preferentemente fermentadora y k. Lactis es predominantemente respiradora. Esta diferencia existente en la capacidad respiratoria se ha relacionado con m\u00faltiples factores, entre ellos el efecto crabtree y la represi\u00f3n catab\u00f3lica de genes que intervienen en la cadena respiratoria mitocondrial. Para explicar las bases moleculares de la elevada capacidad respiradora de la levadura k. Lactis frente a la levadura s. Cerevisiae, para explicar, tambi\u00e9n, la conexi\u00f3n existente entre los elevados niveles de actividad de la ruta de las pentosas fosfato en k. Lactis y la necesaria actividad de una cadena respiratoria y adem\u00e1s para poder aportar nuevos datos que permitan explicar mecanismos alternativos para la reoxidaci\u00f3n mitocondrial de los coenzimas, en la presente tesis doctoral se realiz\u00f3 un estudio exhaustivo de dos genes que codifican para un enzima de la ruta de la gluc\u00f3lisis y para una proteina de la cadena respiratoria mitocondrial que son claves en el metabolismo respiro-fermentativo de la levadura k. Lactis. Tras realizar el aislamiento, caracterizaci\u00f3n y estudio de la regulaci\u00f3n transcripcional de ambos genes, se observ\u00f3 que el gen klfba1 se comporta como el hom\u00f3logo de s. Cerevisiae en lo referido a la regulaci\u00f3n transcripcional sin respuesta a la fuente de carbono, choque t\u00e9rmico a altas temperaturas, da\u00f1o oxidativo y falta de nutrientes. Sin embargo, tampoco responde a otras regulaciones operativas en el gen de s. Cerevisae: falta de calcio, choque t\u00e9rmico a bajas temperaturas o fase estacionaria.
