Tambien se ha comparado con un segundo determinante de resistencia (olec) previamente caracterizado.  la secuenciacion del determinante de resistencia mostro la presencia de cinco pautas abiertas de lectura, una de las cuales (olec) es la responsable de la resistencia y mostro homolog\u00eda con otras proteinas pertenecientes a la familia de los transportadores abc, a la cual tambien pertenece el producto del gen oleb. El gen olec esta acoplado transcripcionalmente a un segundo gen (olec5) cuya proteina deducida presenta seis dominios transmembranales caracteristicos de proteinas integrales de membrana. Este dato se ha comprobado por medio de estudios de topolog\u00eda de membrana.  ambas proteinas (olec y oleb) mostraron una localizacion subcelular citoplasmica, lo cual fue demostrado utilizando anticuerpos policlonales y fraccionamiento celular. La sintesis de oleb es paralela a la de oleandomicina lo cual sugiere una regulacion coordinada de la produccion de ambos productos. Tambien se ha demostrado que oleb es capaz de transportar oleandomicina y oleandomicina glucosilada al exterior celular.  a traves de la construccion de transportadores hibridos realizados a partir de los genes olec y olec5 asi como otros genes de resistencia de diferentes productores de antibioticos, se ha demostrado que el gen olec junto con olec5 podrian funcionar como un sistema de
