Se considera que tiene un origen autoinmune y que est\u00e1 mediada por c\u00e9lulas de subtipo 1 de linfocitos t cooperadores (th1), caracterizadas por la secreci\u00f3n de citoquinas como interleuquina 2 (il2) e interfer\u00f3n gamma (ifngamma) entre otras. Se han estudiado procesos relacionados con la activaci\u00f3n celular a trav\u00e9s del receptor de la c\u00e9lula t (tcr) en l\u00edneas y clones th1-th2 reactivos a prote\u00edna b\u00e1sica de mielina (mbp); proliferaci\u00f3n, producci\u00f3n de interleuquinas, activaci\u00f3n del factor de transcripci\u00f3n nfkb y uni\u00f3n de los factores nfat y stat6 al elemento p1 del promotor de interleuquina 4. Por otro lado, se ha estudiado el efecto de ifnbeta in vivo sobre los s\u00edntomas de eae, el n\u00famero de infiltrados perivasculares en snc y la inducci\u00f3n de factores nucleares en c\u00e9lulas de n\u00f3dulos linf\u00e1ticos (lnc). Tambi\u00e9n se ha analizado el efecto de ifnbeta in vitro sobre la inducci\u00f3n de nfkb en la l\u00ednea humana jurkat. Por \u00faltimo, se realiz\u00f3 el estudio de la capacidad de uni\u00f3n de nfkb y ap1 en pbmc de individuos sanos y pacientes de esclerosis m\u00faltiple. Del conjunto del trabajo que se presenta se concluye que ifnbeta reduce significativamente los  s\u00edntomas de eae, este efecto est\u00e1 acompa\u00f1ado de una disminuci\u00f3n de infiltrados perivasculares en el sistema nervioso central, de una disminuci\u00f3n de la actividad de nfkb y de un aumento de la fosforilaci\u00f3n de stat6.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la
