Los beneficios derivados de la criopreservaci\u00f3n de embriones de peces son muy numerosos, tanto en el campo de la acuicultura como en el de la conservaci\u00f3n. El presente trabajo se ha realizado principalmente con embriones de rodaballo (scophthalmus maximus) aunque se han utilizado otras especies como el pez cebra (danio rerio) y el winter flounder (pleuronectes americanus). Para la obtenci\u00f3n de una criopreservaci\u00f3n eficaz, es necesario usar compuestos crioprotectores que est\u00e9n presentes en todos los campartimentos embrionarios y que protejan a las c\u00e9lulas de la congelaci\u00f3n. No obstante la presencia de m\u00faltiples barreras rodeando cada compartimento dificulta este objetivo. Por ello gran parte de los esfuerzos se han dirigido hacia la b\u00fasqueda de m\u00e9todos de permeabilizaci\u00f3n que incrementen la penetraci\u00f3n de los crioprotectores en el embri\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n se realizaron estudios de toxicidad a difernetes crioprotectores permeables y no permeables y formularon soluciones vitrificantes y protocolos de incorporaci\u00f3n de los crioprotectores. Tras  la incorporaci\u00f3n de los criporotectores, los embriones fueron vitrificados, estudiando varios factores que desempe\u00f1an un importante papel en el \u00e9xito o fracaso del proceso. tras la vitrificaci\u00f3n se evalu\u00f3 la morfolog\u00eda embrionaria a microscop\u00eda \u00f3ptica, y la actividad de enzimas citoplasm\u00e1ticas mediante espectrofotometr\u00eda, y se observ\u00f3 que entre los embriones que exhiben buena morfolog\u00eda, han de existir, seg\u00fan los resultados obtenidos, algunos en los que la mayor parte de sus c\u00e9lulas hayan mantenido intactas sus membranas celulares y una actividad metab\u00f3lica adecuada.
