Nuestro laboratorio ha demostrado con anterioridad que en el cerebro de los animales hipo tiro ideo s la expresi\u00f3n del genoma mitocondrial est\u00e1 disminuida durante el desarrollo. Nuestro objetivo en este trabajo ha sido realizar un estudio detallado del efecto de la hormona tiroide  sobre la actividad mitocondrial en diferentes \u00e1reas cerebrales. Nuestros resultados muestran claramente que la hormona tiro idea regula la actividad de las mitocondrias libres solo en dos \u00e1reas del cerebro: corteza cerebral y estriado. As\u00ed solo hemos observado en neonatos hipotiroideos una disminuci\u00f3n de la capacidad de fosforilaci\u00f3n oxidativa, actividad del complejo 1 y expresi\u00f3n del genoma mitocondrial en estas dos \u00e1reas, no observ\u00e1ndose cambio alguno en el hipocampo, cerebelo, t\u00e1lamo, mesenc\u00e9falo y tallo cerebral. en  contraste con estos resultados no se han observado cambios en las mitocondrias sin\u00e1pticas de la corteza cerebral. El estudio de la incorporaci\u00f3n de 13c desde la- glucosa a diversos metabolitos en el cerebro mediante resonancia magn\u00e9tica nuclear (rmn), sugieren un menor consumo de ox\u00edgeno por parte de las neurona s de la corteza cerebral. Estos resultados ponen de manifiesto una acci\u00f3n diferencial de t3 sobre las mitocondrias de los terminales sin\u00e1pticos y lo de los cuerpos neuronales. Finalmente todos nuestros resultados son compatibles con la idea de que t3 regula la actividad mitocondrial, al menos en parte, a trav\u00e9s de la regulaci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n del genoma
