Permite la incorporaci\u00f3n de mol\u00e9culas extracelulares, la internalizaci\u00f3n y el reciclado de una serie de receptores de membrana de gran importancia fisiol\u00f3gica, la presentaci\u00f3n de ant\u00edgenos o el recambio de membrana plasm\u00e1tica. Si bien existen en la actualidad suficientes evidencias de que la endocitosis es un proceso celular que tambi\u00e9n ocurre en c\u00e9lulas vegetales, su significado fisiol\u00f3gico se desconoce. Se ha propuesto la existencia de una endocitosis mediada por receptores (emr) que podr\u00eda permitir la captaci\u00f3n de nutrientes o la regulaci\u00f3n negativa de se\u00f1ales inducidas por hormonas, factores de crecimiento, toxinas o elicitores. El objetivo general de esta tesis fue establecer claramente la existencia de emr en c\u00e9lulas vegetales y analizar el tr\u00e1fico intracelular de ligandos presumiblemente incorporados por emr, para tratar de establecer el significado fisiol\u00f3gico de este proceso en c\u00e9lulas vegetales. Para ello, se utilizaron suspensiones celulares y protoplastos de arroz (oryza sativa), as\u00ed como protoplastos de tabaco (nicotiana tabacum by2) y arabidopsis thaliana como sistemas experimentales, y prote\u00ednas biotiniladas, biotina libre y biotina unida a fluoresce\u00edna como marcadores de endocitosis. se pudo comprobar que estos cuatro sistemas experimentales incorporan prote\u00ednas biotiniladas con una eficiencia muy superior a la de las correspondientes prote\u00ednas sin biotinilar, y tambi\u00e9n biotina libre o unida a fluoresce\u00edna. el proceso depende de la temperatura, se satura con el tiempo y la concentraci\u00f3n de marcador y se compite con biotina libre, sugiriendo que la internalizaci\u00f3n de prote\u00ednas biotiniladas ocurre por emr. Adem\u00e1s, el marcador internalizado aparece mayoritariamente en la fracci\u00f3n de membranas y se ha comprobado que el destino final del mismo es la vacuola, estaci\u00f3n final de la ruta endoc\u00edtica.
