Dolores <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>La oxidaci\u00f3n de \u00e1cido f\u00f3rmico sobre electrodos de platino es una reacci\u00f3n modelo en electrocat\u00e1lisis. Se sabe que esta reacci\u00f3n tiene lugar a trav\u00e9s de dos v\u00edas, una de ellas lleva a la oxidaci\u00f3n directa del \u00e1cido f\u00f3rmico a co2 y la otra produce un intermedio (coads) que se adsorbe fuertemente en la superficie y se oxida a potenciales relativamente altos, envenenando la superficie del electrodo.Ambas v\u00edas son sensibles a la estructura, siendo el pt(111) el plano que presenta una menor actividad electrocatal\u00edtica para la formaci\u00f3n de veneno y una menor velocidad de reacci\u00f3n para la oxidaci\u00f3n directa de \u00e1cido f\u00f3rmico.A trav\u00e9s de experimentos de adsorci\u00f3n disociativa de \u00e1cido f\u00f3rmico sobre electrodos pt(s)-[n(111)x(111)] y pt(s)-[n(111)x(100)] modificados con ad\u00e1tomos adsorbidos irreversiblemente, se ha demostrado que la formaci\u00f3n de la coads tiene lugar sobre los sitios de escal\u00f3n y no sobre los sitios (111). Una vez formado difunde y bloquea los sitios de terraza. As\u00ed, si los sitios de escal\u00f3n de la superficie se bloquean con ad\u00e1tomos m\u00e1s eletropositivos que el pt, puede inhibirse la formaci\u00f3n de veneno en la superficie.Otro punto importante a tener en cuenta, es el efecto de los modificadores superficiales sobre la oxidaci\u00f3n directa de \u00e1cido f\u00f3rmico. La presencia de bi sobre la superficie provoca un fuerte incremento de la actividad, tanto del electrodo pt(111), como de los electrodos escalonados pt(hkl), en hclo4 0.1 m.La reacci\u00f3n de reducci\u00f3n de ox\u00edgeno, tambi\u00e9n es una reacci\u00f3n sensible a la estructura. La presencia de escalones sobre la superficie produce un aumento de la actividad catal\u00edtica de los electrodos de pt. Otro factor importante que hay que tener en cuenta en esta reacci\u00f3n es el medio electrol\u00edtico. La presencia de aniones (bi)sulfatos adsorbidos sobre la superficie provocan una disminuci\u00f3n de la actividad catal\u00edtica de los electrodos.
