De la tensi\u00f3n entre detractores y partidarios de la reconvenci\u00f3n surgieron dos sistemas: el sistema de  reconvenci\u00f3n conexa y el de reconvenci\u00f3n inconexa. El derecho espa\u00f1ol opt\u00f3 por el sistema de reconvenci\u00f3n inconexa, sistema que se mantuvo hasta la ley 1\/2000, de enjuiciamiento civil. La reconvenci\u00f3n en el proceso laboral se movi\u00f3 dentro de las directrices descritas, pero el car\u00e1cter marcadamente oral del juicio laboral implicaba que, en ocasiones, se produjesen situaciones de  indefensi\u00f3n, lo que se corrigi\u00f3 mediante la obligaci\u00f3n de anunciar la reconvenci\u00f3n en el acto de conciliaci\u00f3n o en la resoluci\u00f3n resolviendo la reclamaci\u00f3n previa. Los principios inspiradores del proceso laboral modulan el r\u00e9gimenjur\u00eddico de la reconvenci\u00f3n.  la reconvenci\u00f3n posee una naturaleza jur\u00eddica compleja pues implica una acumulaci\u00f3n de pretensiones y la formulaci\u00f3n de una nueva demanda, debiendo distinguirse de las excepciones y, en especial, de las llamadas excepciones reconvencionales.  el fundamento de la reconvenci\u00f3n es tambi\u00e9n plural. La econoll\u00faaprocesal, el evitar sentencias contradictorias, y la igualdad y equidad entre las partes son fines que la inspiran.  la reconvenci\u00f3n se encuentra sometida a l\u00edmites subjetivos, objetivos y formales. Los l\u00edmites subjetivos hacen referencia a la competencia del \u00f3rgano jurisdiccional, a la legitimaci\u00f3n de las partes y a la imposibilidad de que la reconvenci\u00f3n, en determinados supuestos, se dirija contra terceros. los  objetivos a la conexi\u00f3n entre las pretensiones, a la prohibici\u00f3n de acumulaci\u00f3n de determinadas pretensiones y a la prohibici\u00f3n de la reconvenci\u00f3n en juicios de diferente naturaleza.
