En estos nuevos \u00f3rganos vegetativos, el nitr\u00f3geno atmosf\u00e9rico es reducido a amonio que se usa como fuente de nitr\u00f3geno en el metabolismo de las plantas. Una de las propiedades  m\u00e1s importantes de esta interacci\u00f3n simbi\u00f3tica es la especificidad, en la que al menos dos etapas de intercambio de se\u00f1ales moleculares entre la planta y la bacteria, aparecen implicadas en la determinaci\u00f3n de la nodulaci\u00f3n espec\u00edfica con el hu\u00e9sped. En la primera, los flavonoides, mol\u00e9culas se\u00f1al excretadas por la planta, activan la prote\u00edna de nodulaci\u00f3n nodd que induce la transcripci\u00f3n de los genes de nodulaci\u00f3n bacterianos (llamados genes nod, nol, noe). Estos genes de nodulaci\u00f3n codifican las proteinas nod, enzimas que est\u00e1n implicadas en la bios\u00edntesis de las mol\u00e9culas se\u00f1al de la bacteria tambi\u00e9n llamados factores nod. Los factores nod son oligosac\u00e1ridos de n-acetil-d-glucosamina (2-6 unidades) enlazadas por uniones  b-(1-&gt;4) y n-aciladas por un \u00e1cido graso de naturaleza variable en el terminal no reductor. Pueden presentar diversos tipos de sustituyentes tanto en el terminal reductor como en el terminal no reductor, la naturaleza exacta de estos sustituyentes varia ampliamente seg\u00fan la bacteria y  juegan un papel determinante en su actividad biol\u00f3gica.  1.  Se ha estudiado la estructura de los factores de nodulaci\u00f3n de rhizobium giardinii bv. Giardinii h152. se han utilizado las t\u00e9cnicas avanzadas de determinaci\u00f3n estructural: cgl-em, fab, es q-o-tof, cid es q-o-tof y 1h- y 13c-rmn (experimentos dbf-cosy, 1d-tocsy, hsqc-ed, hmbc, 1d-noesy).
