Se trata de un n\u00facleo cil\u00edndrico que recorre longitudinalmente el techo mesencef\u00e1lico entre el borde rostral de la comisura del col\u00edculo superior y el borde caudal de la comisura del col\u00edculo inferior pr\u00f3ximo a la l\u00ednea media e inmediatamente superior a la columna dorsomedial de la sustancia gris periacueductal, con una longitud de 3.5-4 mm. Con aproximadamente 10.000 neuronas.  al comparar la columna comisural tectal con los n\u00facleos que la rodean la hacen diferente:  a) por su citoarquitectura. Sus neuronas tienen un tama\u00f1o diferente y con una mayor densidad neuronal que el col\u00edculo superior o la sustancia gris periacueductal.  b) por sus conexiones. Tras la inyecci\u00f3n con el trazador retr\u00f3grado fluorogold en el complejo olivar superior de la rata, se marcan numerosas neuronas en la columna comisural tectal ipsolateral, mientras que no se ve lo mismo en las regiones situadas alrededor de ella.  para el estudio de las principales fuentes de proyecci\u00f3n inyectamos el trazador fluorogold en la columna comisural tectal. Esto, nos permiti\u00f3 el an\u00e1lisis de la distribuci\u00f3n de los somas marcados en el enc\u00e9falo. A pesar del enorme n\u00famero de centros con somas marcados, los candidatos m\u00e1s probables como fuentes de inervaci\u00f3n son; el n\u00facleo parolivar superior, las subdivisiones del col\u00edculo inferior, el n\u00facleo del brazo conjuntival del col\u00edculo inferior, el col\u00edculo superior, el n\u00facleo precomisural y las \u00e1reas auditivas de la corteza cerebral.  a fin de confirmar que estos centros son realmente fuente de proyecci\u00f3n, hemos realizado inyecciones con trazadores anter\u00f3grados en estos centros a fin de analizar los campos terminales generados en la columna comisural tectal. De modo que hemos comprobado la inervaci\u00f3n del n\u00facleo parolivar superior y del las subdivisiones del col\u00edculo inferior, descritas extensamente en este
