Como materiales de partida se utilizaron una brea de alquitr\u00e1n de huella, una brea de petr\u00f3leo y una brea de mesofase sint\u00e9tica, todas ellas comerciales. la optimizaci\u00f3n de las propiedades de las breas de alquitr\u00e1n de hulla y petr\u00f3leo precursoras de los materiales de carbono, se llevo a cabo mediante tratamientos t\u00e9rmicos controlados y procesos de separaci\u00f3n de las fases originadas durante los mismos (fase is\u00f3tropica y mesofase).  se estudi\u00f3, por primera vez, la aplicabilidad del proceso de filtraci\u00f3n en caliente a la separaci\u00f3n de fases en breas de petr\u00f3leo tratadas t\u00e9rmicamente y se analizaron las causas  por las cuales no result\u00f3 adecuado. Asimismo, se desarroll\u00f3 un nuevo m\u00e9todo de separaci\u00f3n, basado en la sedimentaci\u00f3n de la mesofase. El nuevo m\u00e9todo de separaci\u00f3n, basado en la sedimentaci\u00f3n de la mesofase. El nuevo m\u00e9todo permiti\u00f3 obtener breas anis\u00f3tropicas con una pureza superior al 96% vol. Adem\u00e1s, para la producci\u00f3n de cantidades importantes de brea de mesofase, a partir tanto de breas de alquitr\u00e1n de hulla como de petr\u00f3leo, se dise\u00f1\u00f3 y ensay\u00f3 un
