(rip) de tipo as o 2 que,  como el resto de prote\u00ednas pertenecientes a este grupo, posee actividad citot\u00f3xica irreversible, lo que la  otorga un gran potencial biom\u00e9dico adem\u00e1s, la viscuminaes capaz de disparar la respuesta inmune, tanto humoral como celular, lo que aumenta considerablemente su potencial utilidad en el tratamiento de enfermedades como el c\u00e1ncer e inmunodeficiencias.  las rips de tipo as est\u00e1n formadas por dos cadenas unidas por un enlace disulfuro. La cadena a tiene  actividad rrna n-glicosidasa y la cadena beta es una lectina que interacciona espec\u00edficamente con  receptores de lasup\u00e9rficie celular, facilitando la internalizaci\u00f3n en la c\u00e9lula diana de la subunidad t\u00f3xica.  Si bien la estructural de la viscumina, adividad enzim\u00e1tica y capacidad de uni\u00f3n a carbohidratos es muy  similar a la de las dem\u00e1s rips tipo 2 citotoxicas, \u00e9sta presenta algunas peculiaridades estructurales que la  distinguen del resto, como la ausencia aparente de enlace disulfuro intercatenario en una parte de  mol\u00e9culas y la formaci\u00f3n de tetr\u00e1meros no covalentes (ab)z. la formaci\u00f3n de tetr\u00e1meros y la disposici\u00f3n  en los mismos de los sitios de uni\u00f3n puede diferenciar la uni\u00f3n a las c\u00e9lulas diana as\u00ed como su posterior internalizaci\u00f3n y transporte respecto a las citotoxinas dim\u00e9ricas.  la caracterizaci\u00f3n molecular de la viscumina realizada en esta tesis doctoral aporta datos relevantes  sobre las peculiaridades estructurales de la viscumina y su influencia sobre su funci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica. En ella  se propone un posible mecanismo de escisi\u00f3n del enlace disulfuro intercatenario y la posible presencia de  glicoformas minoritarias se comprueba la existencia de la prote\u00edna en soluci\u00f3n mayoritariamente en forma  tetram\u00e9lica, lo que condiciona la forma de uni\u00f3n a la superficie celular.
