Se ha analizado la poblacion glial de la via visual en estado normal y su modificacion despues de la lesion. Se han utilizado cuatro anticuerpos: anti-gfap, anti-vimentina, anti-s-100 y anti-calretinina, asi como dos tecnicas histoquimicas:  una para detectar la actividad nadph-diaforasa y otra para detectar poli-n-acetil lactosamina con lectina de tomate. Mediante la utilizacion del anticuerpo anti-calretinina hemos demostrado el restablecimiento de las conexiones entre la retina y el techo optico. Como conclusion mas relevante se demuestra la participacion activa de las celulas gliales en los procesos degenerativos\/regenerativos mediante cambios metabolicos, morfologicos y de
