Con el objetivo de dise\u00f1ar un proceso biotecnol\u00f3gico para eliminar estos compuestos t\u00f3xicos se ha aislado , a partir de lodos del r\u00edo guadalquivir a su paso por c\u00f3rdoba , una bacteria alcal\u00f3fica capaz de degradar cianuro en condiciones alcalinas. La bacteria , clasificada como pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes cect5344, usa cianuro libre o el residuo de la joyer\u00eda como fuente de nitr\u00f3geno para su crecimiento aer\u00f3bico. La ruta de degradaci\u00f3n de cianuro en esta bacteria transcurre a trav\u00e9s de cianhidrinas, mientras que su capacidad de sintetizar sider\u00f3foros le permite utilizar complejos cianurados muy estables, como el ferrocianuro f\u00e9rrico.Una aproximaci\u00f3n prote\u00f3mica ha revelado que en p.Pseudoalcaligenes cect5344 el cianuro induce una prote\u00edna que podr\u00eda participar en la s\u00edntesis de sider\u00f3foros (fosforribosilglicinamida formiltransferasa)proteinas involucradas en la protecci\u00f3n frente a estr\u00e9s oxidativo (alquil hidroper\u00f3xido reductasa y prote\u00edna de uni\u00f3n a dna tipo ferritina), una prote\u00edna reguladora normalmente inducida en condiciones de limitaci\u00f3n de nitr\u00f3geno (pii-2)y una prote\u00edna de choque t\u00e9rmico.  en p.Pseudoalcaligenes cect5344,el metabolismo del cianato podr\u00eda depender de un transportador de bicarbonato y se encuantra bajo control por represi\u00f3n catab\u00f3lica. Este trabajo establece por primera vez una relaci\u00f3n entre el metabolismo del cianato y del cianuro, aunque un mutante en el gen cyns indica que el el cianato no esun intermediario obligado en la asimilaci\u00f3n de cianuro.  hasta el momento , p. Pseudoalcaligenes cect5344 es la primera bacteria descrita que degrada cianuro a ph alcalino y en ausencia de glucosa.
