Los p\u00e9ptidos se aislaron y purificaci\u00f3n utilizando diferentes etapas cromatogr\u00e1ficas de modo secuencial (cromatograf\u00eda de exclusi\u00f3n en gel, cromatograf\u00edas de intercambio i\u00f3nico y cromatograf\u00eda l\u00edquida de alta resoluci\u00f3n), en las que se determin\u00f3 su presencia y concentraci\u00f3n, mediante un radioinmunoensayo (ria) con un anticuerpo contra la trh.  las pr\u00f3statas de cuatro pacientes que presentaban hiperplasia benigna prost\u00e1tica (bph) y la de un paciente que no presentaba patolog\u00eda alguna, se caracterizaron por contener muy bajas concentraciones de p\u00e9ptidos con inmunorreactividad a la trh, entre los que se incluye al trip\u00e9ptido pglu-glu-pro-amida. Estos niveles no justificaban los altos niveles del trip\u00e9ptido que determinamos en las secreciones prost\u00e1ticas y el semen; sin embargo, el tejido prost\u00e1tico presentaba altas concentraciones de un p\u00e9ptido de bajo peso molecular relacionado con este trip\u00e9ptido, que fue detectado con un  tratamiento de calor previo al ria. Esta nueva forma molecular, no descrita anteriormente, y a la que hemos denominado \u00abp\u00e9ptido i\u00bb, presenta un grupo b\u00e1sico y una concentraci\u00f3n 100 veces mayor, como m\u00ednimo, que la del trip\u00e9ptido en la pr\u00f3stata humana, por lo que debe ser el principal p\u00e9ptido relacionado con la trh de la misma. Los resultados muestran que los niveles de pglu-glu-pro-amida son insignificantes en la pr\u00f3stata humana, pero \u00e9ste parece estar presente en ella en forma de un precursor, el p\u00e9ptido i;
