El tama\u00f1o de la part\u00edcula y la capacidad de empaquetamiento son par\u00e1metros fundamentales para explicar el comportamiento viscoso y mec\u00e1nico de mezclas simples de pp\/ballclays.  una mezcla simple de los dos componentes da lugar a composites con bajas propiedades, debido a la diferente naturaleza qu\u00edmica, ya que mientras los ballclays son polares e higrosc\u00f3picos, el polipropileno es apolar e hidr\u00f3fobo. Una compatibilizaci\u00f3n es necesaria para la mejora de las propiedades del composite.  para compatibilizar la mezcla se ha trabajado en dos v\u00edas complementarias e inseparables. La primera ha consistido en obtener una uni\u00f3n intima entre los dos materiales, a trav\u00e9s de la fabricaci\u00f3n de un compound. Para ello, se ha dise\u00f1ado y testado una configuraci\u00f3n de husillo en una extrusora corotante que ha reducido los aglomerados de part\u00edculas y ha mejorado la dispersi\u00f3n y la distribuci\u00f3n homog\u00e9nea de la arcilla en el seno del pol\u00edmero sin la degradaci\u00f3n aparente de este \u00faltimo.  la segunda se ha basado en la b\u00fasqueda del mejor agente de acoplamiento para optimizar las propiedades mec\u00e1nicas y viscosas del composite. Se han utilizado diversos compuestos con muy diferente estructura qu\u00edmica otorgando al composite diferentes propiedades.
