Durante los \u00faltimos 15 a\u00f1os se han descrito propiedades neuroprotectoras y reparadoras de estas hormonas endiversosrnodelos animales de degeneraci\u00f3n nerviosa. Sin embargo, la claridad de los resultados experimentales no se ha visto reflejada en .Ios ensayos cl\u00ednicos hasta el  momento. En la\u00e9seperimentaci\u00f3nb\u00e1sica, las dianas principales de los estudios y tratamientos neuroprotectores han sido las neuronas, pero en el cerebro hay otros tipos celulares, como las c\u00e9lulas gliales, cuya disfunci\u00f3n est\u00e1 implicada en numerosas patolog\u00edas. El objetivo de nuestro trabajo ha sido determinar el papel de los astrocitos y la microgi\u00eda en la acci\u00f3n neuroprotectora de andr\u00f3genos y estr\u00f3genos.  empleando tres modelos distintos de lesi\u00f3n. Cerebral hemos encontrado que los  astrocitos reactivos expresan receptores de estr\u00f3genos y la microgl\u00eda reactiva expresa receptor de andr\u00f3genos. Por tanto, los astrocitos y la microgl\u00eda se convierten, al activarse, en diana directa de estr\u00f3genos y andr\u00f3genos, respectivamente.  nuestros resultados sugieren que la expresi\u00f3n astrocitaria de los receptores de  estr\u00f3genoes unacaracter\u00edsticagenera.1de la actlvad\u00f3nastrocitaria,que no se relacionaconel fenotipo citoesqueletico de las c\u00e9lulas, ni con la naturaleza iso o anisom\u00f3rfica de la lesi\u00f3n, ni con el sexo o el estado hormonal del animal lesionado. La expresi\u00f3n del receptor de andr\u00f3genos por la microgl\u00eda reactiva talt1bi\u00e9nparece ser una respuesta generalizada, pues no depende de un alto estado de activac\u00ed\u00f3n, ni del sexo o el estado hormonal del animal  lesionado. Sin embargo, s\u00f3lo hemos encontrado receporde hidr\u00f3genos microglial despu\u00e9s de lesiones con apertura de la barrera hem\u00e1tbencef\u00e1lica.  la expresi\u00f3n de receptor de
