La f\u00edsica de materiales es una gran \u00e1rea de investigaci\u00f3n envuelta dentro del esfuerzo de la fusi\u00f3n nuclear, su principal objetivo es generar el suficiente conocimiento sobre tres materiales de baja activaci\u00f3n: los aceros ferr\u00edticos\/martens\u00edlicos, las aleaciones de vanadio-cromo-titanio y el compuesto carburo de silicio, considerados como principales candidatos para ser materiales estructurales en las c\u00e1maras de reacci\u00f3n. Este es un importante \u00e1rea -no s\u00f3lo por la seguridad del personal de la planta- sino tambi\u00e9n, para incrementar la vida del reactor nuclear con materiales apropiados que puedan ser satisfactoriamente funcionales y de econ\u00f3mica explotaci\u00f3n.  el carburo de silicio (sic) es considerado uno de los principales materiales constituyentes de un reactor nuclear de fusi\u00f3n.
