Los an\u00e1lisis moleculares incluyeron estudios del nutdna para detectar mutaciones puntuales, reordenamientos , cambios en la cantidad de nutdna y cambios en la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica de diversos rnas mitocondriales.Tambi\u00e9n se realizaron estudios bioqu\u00edmicos para evaluan la afectaci\u00f3n en la funci\u00f3n de la cadena respiratoria mitocondr\u00edal , responsable de cubrir el 90% de las necesidades energ\u00e9ticas celulares.  la comparaci\u00f3n entre pacientes y controles no revel\u00f3 diferentes significativas al estudiar el nutdna y la funci\u00f3n de la cadena
