Gracias al grupo tiol que posee puede reaccionar con potentes especies oxidantes y participar en la protecci\u00f3n celular. La distribuci\u00f3n celular del gsh no es uniforme, de hecho el gsh mitocondrial (mtgsh) es esencial para un correcto funcionamiento de las mitocondrias.  existe una relaci\u00f3n directa entre los niveles de gsh, la proliferaci\u00f3n tumoral y la supervivencia metast\u00e1tica. El mtgsh es clave en la protecci\u00f3n tumoral frente a los radicales libres. En la interacci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas de melanoma metast\u00e1tico con el endotelio simusoidal hep\u00e1tico el mtgsh se ve notablemente disminuido. Las especies reactivas del nitr\u00f3geno y del ox\u00edgeno da\u00f1an el transporte de gsh al interior mitocondrial. Esto puede aumentar la susceptibilidad de las c\u00e9lulas tumorales a las terapias que aumentan la producci\u00f3n de radicales libres. Las c\u00e9lulas de melanoma de elevada capacidad metast\u00e1tica (bm16mf10) sobreexpresan la prote\u00edna antiapopt\u00f3tica bcl-2. Esto es debido a una disminuci\u00f3n en la salida de gsh desde el interior mitocondrial. De esta forma las c\u00e9lulas con elevada capacidad metast\u00e1tica poseen una doble protecci\u00f3n: 1- por la propia expresi\u00f3n de la bcl-2, la cual impide la muerte celular por diferentes mecanismos y 2- el ac\u00famulo de gsh intracelular, lo cual aumenta la resistencia al estr\u00e9s oxidativo y nitrosativo al que se ven sometidas las c\u00e9lulas en la interacci\u00f3n con el endotelio vascular. El tratamiento de las c\u00e9lulas tumorales con elevada capacidad metast\u00e1tica con bso (un inhibidor espec\u00edfico de la s\u00edntesis de gsh) y con un oligo antisentido contra la bcl-2, aumenta la citotoxicidad de las especies reactivas del nitr\u00f3genoy del ox\u00edgeno generadas por el endotelio sinusoidal hep\u00e1tico, hasta inducir un 97% de muerte celular tumoral. La depleci\u00f3n de la bcl-2 permite la inducci\u00f3n de muerte celular con niveles de mtgsh superiores a los contr<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
