La propia f\u00edsica de la interacci\u00f3n part\u00edcula-turbulencia presenta numerosos puntos oscuros, como consecuencia de lo cual no existen a d\u00eda de hoy modelos cien por cien fiables que permitan predecir la evoluci\u00f3n de la distribuci\u00f3n de part\u00edculas en flujos turbulentos de inter\u00e9s en la ciencia o la tecnolog\u00eda. En un proceso de atomizaci\u00f3n turbulenta, las fuerzas de presi\u00f3n fluctuantes propias de este tipo de flujos que tienden a fragmentar la gota o burbuja encuentran la oposici\u00f3n de la tensi\u00f3n superficial, que tratar\u00eda de mantenerla esf\u00e9rica. El cociente entre el orden de magnitud de ambos esfuerzos recibe el nombre de n\u00famero de weber, y es el par\u00e1metro fundamental en atomizaci\u00f3n turbulenta.  la primera parte de esta tesis consiste en una investigaci\u00f3n experimental del r\u00e9gimen de n\u00fameros de weber moderados. El flujo en el que se realizan los experimentos es un chorro libre turbulento. Este flujo presenta varias ventajas respecto a los reactores agitados t\u00edpicamente empleados en la literatura: la primera es que si el tama\u00f1o de las burbujas cae dentro del subrango inercial del espectro de energ\u00eda, cerca del eje del chorro la turbulencia es pr\u00e1cticamente is\u00f3tropa y homog\u00e9nea. Adem\u00e1s, puesto que en el eje del chorro la cortadura es nula y no existen superficies s\u00f3lidas, se puede considerar que la rotura de las part\u00edculas es puramente turbulenta. por otra parte, el chorro libre es un flujo ampliamente estudiado en la literatura y de f\u00e1cil caracterizaci\u00f3n experimental.  la medici\u00f3n de las propiedades de la rotura turbulenta se realiza mediante t\u00e9cnicas de an\u00e1lisis de im\u00e1genes.
