Ferrugineus en condiciones de laboratorio (t\u00bb\u00bb:25be y h.R.:65%), emple\u00e1ndo dieta artificial, como substrato de alimentaci\u00f3n de larvas, consiguiendo mantener esta especie durante m\u00e1s de 10 generaciones.  en el desarrollo post-embrionario, se han evaluado los efectos del tipo de alimento aportado a las larvas; utilizando los tres substratos alimenticios: dieta artificial, ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar y palmera. Dicha evaluaci\u00f3n se ha realizado mediante: (a) ajuste a funciones log\u00edsticas de la variaci\u00f3n de la biomasa, en funci\u00f3n del tiempo, y c\u00e1lculo de la tasa relativa de crecimiento, obteniendo para esta tasa una relaci\u00f3n de 4,5:3,8:1 para dieta artificial, palmera y ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar, respectivamente. (B) n\u00famero de estadios larvarios, que fue menor para dieta (media:8,7), que en palmera (10,5) y ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar (13,0). (C) tasa de desarrollo que present\u00f3 un valor m\u00e1ximo para dieta artificial (0,0105), frente a palmera (0,0086) y ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar (0,0058). todo ello indica la mejor adecuaci\u00f3n de la dieta artificial desarrollada.  se ha evaluado la capacidad de supervivencia de los estados inmaduros a bajas temperaturas; hall\u00e1ndose como temperaturas letales: 10, 5 y c para huevo, larva y pupa, respectivamente.
