Posee una elevada expresi\u00f3n en c\u00e9lulas endoteliales, asimismo se ha identificado en c\u00e9lulas de m\u00fasculo liso vascular. El gen que codifica para esta prote\u00edna se ha identificado como diana de una alteraci\u00f3n vascular conocida como telangiectasia hemorr\u00e1gica hereditaria tipo-1 (hht-1). La hht-1 es una displasia vascular autos\u00f3mica dominante asociada con frecuentes epistaxis, sangrados gastrointestinales, telangiectasias y malformaciones arterio-venosas en cerebro, pulm\u00f3n e h\u00edgado.  los ratones haploinsuficientes para endoglina expresan una menor cantidad de endoglina que sus hermanos de camada control (eng +\/+). La vasodilatadora dependiente de endotelio est\u00e1 disminuida en los ratones eng +\/  en comparaci\u00f3n con la de ratones eng +\/+, por una marcado descenso en la expresi\u00f3n de la \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico sintasa endotelial (enos), lo que podr\u00eda ocasionar la destrucci\u00f3n de la red capilar y esto dar lugar a las malformaciones arterio-venosas caracter\u00edsticas de la hht-1. Esa menor expresi\u00f3n de enos en los ratones eng +\/ , puede estar regulada por la menor expresi\u00f3n de tgf- 1 en dichos ratones.  a pesar de esa disminuci\u00f3n en la expresi\u00f3n de enos en los ratones eng +\/ , estos ratones mantienen la presi\u00f3n arterial dentro de un rango normal a causa de la sobreregulaci\u00f3n en la expresi\u00f3n de la ciclooxigeanasa-2 (cox-2), lo que produce un incremento en la produci\u00f3n de prostaglandinas vasodilatadores que compensar\u00edan la deficiencia en la producci\u00f3n de \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico (no).  por lo tanto la regulaci\u00f3n de la presi\u00f3n arterial es distinta en las dos estirpes de ratones, variando esa regulaci\u00f3n en los niveles de los productos derivados de la enos y de la cox-2.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
