Todas las fenilfenalenonas estudiadas y el alcaloide oxoaporf\u00ednico oxoglaucina son capaces de fotosensibilizar ox\u00edgeno singlete, con eficiencia variable dependiendo de los sustituyentes y el disolvente. en el caso de las 9-fenilfenalenonas, su baja eficiencia fotosensiblizante es debida a la competencia con un proceso de transferencia de carga intramolecular que desactiva los estados excitados. Se muestra que el n\u00facleo de fenalenona es poco reactivo respecto a la abstracci\u00f3n de hidr\u00f3geno, pero bastante reactivo en la transferencia de carga fotoinducida. Su interacci\u00f3n en estado fundamental y excitado con biomol\u00e9culas, como nucle\u00f3sidos y adn, tambi\u00e9n ha sido estudiada. Con el fin de complementar los estudios de ox\u00edgeno singlete en disoluci\u00f3n, se han creado im\u00e1genes de esta especie in planta mediante la combinaci\u00f3n de sondas fluorescentes y una c\u00e1mara digital de alta resoluci\u00f3n. se discute el papel del crom\u00f3foro de fenalenona y, m\u00e1s fundamentalmente, del ox\u00edgeno singlete, en la defensa de
