Estos materiales son inertes, ligeros, flexibles, tienen una gran capacidad espec\u00edfica de absorci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda mec\u00e1nica, en el caso de estar reticuladas se pueden termoconformar, son resistentes al agua y a agentes qu\u00edmicos, se pueden reutilizar y presentan un amplio espectro de propiedades interesantes y peculiares .El empe\u00f1o de relacionar las caracter\u00edsticas microsc\u00f3picas de estos materiales: tama\u00f1o, forma y orientaci\u00f3n de las celdas, el tipo de pol\u00edmero base, las caracter\u00edsticas del gas contenido en las celdas, la estructura macromolecular y supramolecular, con sus propiedades f\u00edsicas m\u00e1s notables, est\u00e1 ampliamente justificado por la gran cantidad de aplicaciones que presentan: aislamiento t\u00e9rmico y ac\u00fastico, embalajes antiimpacto y antiest\u00e1ticos, aplicaciones m\u00e9dicas como soportes, f\u00e9rulas, cascos, protecciones corporales y pr\u00f3tesis ortop\u00e9dicas, aplicaciones en las industrias aeron\u00e1utica, naval y en la construcci\u00f3n formando paneles, ligeros y resistentes y en la industria del autom\u00f3vil como juntas y elementos de confort .  este trabajo es una parte de un amplio proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n del grupo de espumas polim\u00e9ricas del departamento de f\u00edsica de la materia condensada cristalograf\u00eda y mineralog\u00eda de la universidad de valladolid, enfocado al estudio de la relaci\u00f3n entre estructura y propiedades t\u00e9rmicas y mec\u00e1nicas de espumas de poliolefinas obtenidas mediante diferentes procesos de producci\u00f3n. los materiales estudiados son ocho tipos de espumas , con densidades comprendidas aproximadamente entre   22  y 60  , con composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica basada en polietileno de baja denidad, ldpe (seis tipos de materiales), y copol\u00edmero de etileno y acetato de vinilo, eva, (dos tipos de materiales), producidas por la empresa microcel s.A.
