Sin embargo, la calidad de estos modelos exigia un elevado numero de parametros que, en aquel momento eran prohibitivos para la capacidad de los ordenadores existentes. Con la aparicion, en la ultima decada, de las redes bayesianas (tambien conocidas como redes causales probabilistas), la probabilidad ha experimentado un espectacular resurgir y, hoy dia, esta reemplazando de modo satisfactorio al resto de las medidas de incertidumbre. El desarrollo de las redes bayesianas ha sido muy rapido y actualmente existen numerosos metodos de propagacion de incertidumbre, cada uno de ellos con unas caracteristicas propias, y eficaz en un tipo concreto de redes. En esta tesis se han propuesto dos nuevos metodos de propagacion aproximada que mejoran notablemente la eficiencia que los metodos anteriores. Una de sus caracteristicas mas destacables es que permiten obtener una cota del error cometido, tanto globalmente, como para cada uno de los nodos.
