As\u00ed como la manipulaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica, se pretende estudiar la importancia de la mutaci\u00f3n y las interacciones gen\u00e9ticas en la evoluci\u00f3n de los virus de rna. Para ello, se introdujeron sustituciones nucle\u00f3tidicas conocidas en un clon infeccioso del virus de la estomatitis vesicular (vsv) y se midi\u00f3 el efecto que \u00e9stas ten\u00edan sobre la eficacia biol\u00f3gica.  los resultados reverlaron que vsv posee una tolerancia muy escasa a la mutaci\u00f3n, siendo el coeficiente de selecci\u00f3n en contra de los cambios introducidos, mayor que en cualquier sistema biol\u00f3gica de dna. Adem\u00e1s, las mutaciones, al ser combinadas por pares, mostraron una epistasia predominantemente positiva cuando se trataba de cambios delet\u00e9reos y negativa cuando se trataba de cambios beneficiosos.
