Se siguen metodos tipo danilevski, con lo que esencialmente se realizan solo operaciones elementales de semejanza sobre la matriz a.  por otro lado, la relacion existente entre la forma de jordan y la forma canonica racional permite obtener la forma racional de f(a), f un polinomio, mediante la forma de jordan de a. Pues, como es conocido, la imagen por f de un bloque de jordan es sencilla de calcular, mientras que el calculo de la imagen de a por f resulta, en general, demasiado costoso. Ademas, siempre que se den determinadas condiciones relativas al polinomio f, se obtiene la forma racional de f(a) y una matriz de paso r que la transforma en dicha forma canonica con todos los
