Los tests y bancos de \u00edtems han sido dise\u00f1ados para evaluar el rendimiento matem\u00e1tico a lo largo de la educaci\u00f3n primaria y el inicio de la secundaria obligatoria.  el estudio se haya dividido en tres cap\u00edtulos. Los dos primeros tienen un car\u00e1cter te\u00f3rico-revisionista y el tercero es de naturaleza emp\u00edrica y aplicada. El primer cap\u00edtulo est\u00e1 dedicado a repasar los fundamentos de la construcci\u00f3n y validaci\u00f3n de tests. En el apartado de la construcci\u00f3n se abordan las decisiones m\u00e1s relevantes para el dise\u00f1o de un test: determinar la finalidad de la prueba, definir la variable a estudiar, y seleccionar los formatos de \u00edtems y los dise\u00f1os matriciales para la distribuci\u00f3n de \u00edtems. A continuaci\u00f3n se revisan los aspectos que conforman el proceso general de validaci\u00f3n de una prueba objetiva. En este caso se sigue la propuesta de los \u00faltimos standars for educational and psychological testing (aera, apa, ncme, 1999) distinguiendo cinco aproximaciones para la validaci\u00f3n del test: contenido, procesos de respuesta, estructura interna, relaciones con otras variables y validez consecuencia.  el segundo cap\u00edtulo esta dedicado a revisar cuatro programas de evaluaci\u00f3n comparada del rendimiento acad\u00e9mico: the national assessment of eduational progress (naep); trends international mathematics and science study assessment (timss); programme for international student assessment (pisa); y, las evaluaciones espa\u00f1olas responsabilidad del instituto nacional de evaluaci\u00f3n y calidad del sistema educativo (inecse). Dichos programas han sido elegidos, tanto por su contrastado prestigio, como por sus contribuciones al proceso de validaci\u00f3n de los tests.
