Despues de un anallsis teorico de las caracteristicas de las sociedades occidentales mas avanzadas y del ocio desde las  perspectivas individualy social, se realizo un trabajo empirico a traves de encuesta con una muestra de estudiantes de la universidad de almeria.  entre los principales resultados destacar los numerosos rasgos de la condicion cultural posmoderna que encontramos en el ocio juvenil, como el presentismo, el riesgo, el hedonismo, el consumismo o la importancia de la television y las nuevas tecnolog\u00edas.  sin embargo, se han constatado diferencias en funcion de la clase social y el genero.
