Adem\u00e1s en los tres primeros casos la descarboxilaci\u00f3n oxidativa de a-hidroxi\u00e1cidos representa una de las etapas clave. De este modo en esta tesis se han conseguido los siguientes objetivos:  1- s\u00edntesis de alquilarilcetonas, mediante la utilizaci\u00f3n de la reacci\u00f3n de alquilaci\u00f3n del enolato del \u00e1cido mand\u00e9lico.  2- s\u00edntesis enantioselectiva de benzo\u00ednas asim\u00e9tricas quirales con elevados excesos enantiom\u00e9ricos, mediante la utilizaci\u00f3n del \u00e1cido (s)-mand\u00e9lico como equivalente quiral de ani\u00f3n benzoilo en reacciones de adici\u00f3n ald\u00f3lica.  3- s\u00edntesis enantioselectiva de compuestos 1,4-dicarbon\u00edlicos quirales, con excesos enantiom\u00e9ricos muy elevados, basada en la utilizaci\u00f3n del \u00e1cido (s)-mand\u00e9lico como equivalente quiral de ani\u00f3n benzoilo en reacciones de adici\u00f3n de michael a compuestos carbon\u00edlicos a,b-insaturados.  adem\u00e1s tambi\u00e9n se ha utilizado el \u00e1cido mand\u00e9lico \u00fanicamente como fuente de informaci\u00f3n quiral:  4- s\u00edntesis
