Para ello, se utilizaron ratas wistar hembras a las que se inyect\u00f3 stz a dosis \u00fanica v\u00eda intraperitoneal (50mg\/kg) y vt diluido en el agua de bebida y correspondiente a una dosis de un bebedor moderado (400 ml170 kg d\u00eda). se organizaron dos grupos controles y tres grupos de animales diab\u00e9ticos (un grupo inyectado con stz, otro tratado con vt previamente a la inducci\u00f3n diab\u00e9tica con stz y  un tercero tratado simult\u00e1neamentecon vt y stz). Transcurridos 30 d\u00edas, se procedi\u00f3 a la obt~nci\u00f3n de muestras de suero, plasma y orina as\u00ed como tejidos (ri\u00f1\u00f3n, p\u00e1ncreas, h\u00edgado y cerebro). En las muestras procesadas s\u00e9 midieron los par\u00e1metros bioqu\u00edmicos: glucosa, hemoglobina glucosilada, fructosamina, insulina, iones sodio y potasio, creatinina, urea, prote\u00ednas totales, colesterol total, hdlcolesterol y triglic\u00e9ridos. Los par\u00e1metros de estr\u00e9s oxidativo estudiados fueron: lipoper\u00f3xidos, glutati\u00f3n reducido y las enzimas  antioxidantes catalasa, glutati\u00f3n peroxidasa y super\u00f3xido dismutasa. En los animales inyectados con stz se encontraron aumentos significativos en los niveles de glucemia, hemoglobina glucosilada y fructosamina as\u00ed como descenso significativo de insulina plasm\u00e1tica, lo que demostraba la instauraci\u00f3n de un estado diab\u00e9tico que adem\u00e1s se acompa\u00f1\u00f3 de aumentos significativos en  glucosuria, proteinuria y microalbuminuria. Se observ\u00f3 alteraci\u00f3n en el perfil lipidico con aumento en los niveles de colesterol s\u00e9rico y del \u00edndice aterog\u00e9nico.
