Esta regi\u00f3n es particularmente sensible a la contaminaci\u00f3n por ozono (o3), debido a su compleja topograf\u00eda, que induce una estructura del flujo que tiene importantes efectos en el transporte y la transformaci\u00f3n de contaminantes fotoqu\u00edmicos. A pesar de esta complejidad, la utilizaci\u00f3n de modelos de calidad del aire multiescala y anidados se ha revelado como una herramienta \u00fatil a la hora de evaluar fen\u00f3menos relacionados con la calidad del aire en terrenos muy complejos.  el modelo de calidad de aire de tercera generaci\u00f3n empleado para simular la problem\u00e1tica de contaminaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica en el nordeste de la pen\u00ednsula ib\u00e9rica es mm5-emicat2000-cmaq, configurado con alta resoluci\u00f3n espacial (1-2km) y temporal (1h). El modelo meteorol\u00f3gico de mesoescala mm5 fue aplicado para simular las circulaciones atmosf\u00e9ricas en una escala regional. emicat2000 fue desarrollado por el dr. Parra dentro del laboratorio de modelizaci\u00f3n ambiental, bajo la direcci\u00f3n del dr. Baldasano, con el fin de estimar las emisiones de contaminantes primarios; y para proporcionar la informaci\u00f3n requerida por el modelo de transporte qu\u00edmico cmaq. Este modelo ha sido configurado con diferentes parametrizaciones para analizar su influencia en los resultados de o3 troposf\u00e9rico. Tras desarrollar una metodolog\u00eda de comparaci\u00f3n y selecci\u00f3n de mecanismos fotoqu\u00edmicos, el mecanismo cbm-iv fue implementado en cmaq para representar la qu\u00edmica en fase gas y heterog\u00e9nea, puesto que este mecanismo present\u00f3 un comportamiento medio y representativo del actual estado de los conocimientos en este campo.  el episodio de contaminaci\u00f3n fotoqu\u00edmica seleccionado tuvo lugar entre el 13 y el 16 de agosto del a\u00f1o 2000.
