Es una proteina muy acidica que contiene la secuencia de timosina a1(ta1) en su region aminoterminal, pero no se conoce en profundidad la funcion biologica de prota. En este sentido, el trabajo de esta tesis ha contribuido al conocimiento de su papel en la funcion inmune. Hemos puesto de manifiesto que prota aumenta la expresion del receptor de il-2 en linfocitos activados y potencia la actividad endogena de celulas nk mediante un mecanismo que implica el aumento en la expresion del receptor p70 de la il-2.  profundizamos en el mecanismo molecular de este efecto marcando radiactivamente la molecula para estudiar la presencia, el numero, la cinetica y la afinidad de sus sitios de union en la superficie de los linfocitos.
