Se analiza su estabilidad y convergencia num\u00e9rica, as\u00ed como la utilizaci\u00f3n de t\u00e9cnicas de divisi\u00f3n del operador para simular yacimientos en los que la gravedad y la presi\u00f3n capilar sean importantes. para reducir la dispersi\u00f3n num\u00e9rica se ha utilizado el m\u00e9todo front-tracking en la resoluci\u00f3n de la ecuaci\u00f3n de conservaci\u00f3n sobre las l\u00edneas de corriente. la precisi\u00f3n y eficiencia del m\u00e9todo se ha comprobado comparando sus resultados con los obtenidos con m\u00e9todos de diferencias finitas.  en la segunda parte se estudia el problema de caracterizaci\u00f3n de yacimientos planteado como un problema inverso para calcular uno o varios par\u00e1metros del modelo. El problema resuelto en la tesis consiste en determinar la distribuci\u00f3n espacial de la  permeabilidad en el yacimiento de forma que se minimice el error en los datos de producci\u00f3n del modelo respecto a los datos experimentales. Para ello, se utiliza un m\u00e9todo de propagaci\u00f3n retro-propagaci\u00f3n obteni\u00e9ndose resultados de convergencia muy  satisfactorios. Tambi\u00e9n se han incluido dos t\u00e9cnicas de regularizaci\u00f3n que ayudan a estabilizar el algoritmo y adem\u00e1s permiten a\u00f1adir cierto tipo de informaci\u00f3n sobre las
