La prote\u00edna que codifica (poliquistina 1) contiene dominios transmembrana, extra e intra-celulares.  para el estudio del gen pkd1 y la prote\u00edna que codifica se han desarrollado una serie de programas de ordenador. El primer paso fue el desarrollo de un programa en perl -bioperl con el fin de automatizar el an\u00e1lisis de las secuencias del gen pkd1 obtenidas a partir de individuos afectos de adpkd, y para anotar cualquier cambio encontrado en la secuencia del gen. El segundo paso fue la integraci\u00f3n de la informaci\u00f3n obtenida en una base de datos relacional. Mediante el uso de estos programas se ha podido anotar un total de 384 cambios nucleot\u00eddicos distintos. Tambi\u00e9n se han podido identificar nuevas variantes de secuencia.  para un mejor entendimiento de la funci\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna poliquistina 1 se han empleado m\u00e9todos para la predicci\u00f3n de la estructura terciaria de la prote\u00edna. Debido a la complejidad de la poliquistinta 1 (36 dominios diferentes), se model\u00f3 la prote\u00edna empleando m\u00e9todos de \u00abab initio\u00bb, sugiriendose al menos dos funciones diferentes para la poquistina 1 a partir de las estructuras obtenidas.  se ha sugerido que la regi\u00f3n extracelular podr\u00eda jugar un papel en fen\u00f3menos de adhesi\u00f3n celular. Esta afirmaci\u00f3n se soporta en la estructura obtenida para los dominios pkd, los cuales parecen estar organizados en \u00ab7-bladed beta-propellers\u00bb, estructura que ha sido descrita en varias prote\u00ednas con funci\u00f3n conocida en adhesi\u00f3n\/uni\u00f3n celular.  para los dominios transmembrana se ha descrito una homolog\u00eda con prote\u00ednas que forman canales cati\u00f3nicos lo que ha llevado a sugerir que la poliquistina 1 podr\u00eda formar parte de un canal cati\u00f3nico no espec\u00edfico multim\u00e9rico.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis
