Se han aislado y clonado los genes npra y nprb de r. Capsulatus b10, y mediante la obtenci\u00f3n de mutantes en dichos genes se ha demostrado que codifican las nitrorreductasas principales de esta bacteria fototr\u00f3fica. el gen npra codifica una nitrorreductasa insensible a ox\u00edgeno hom\u00f3loga a las nitrorreductasas cl\u00e1sicas de la familia b, como la prote\u00edna nfnb de e.  coli, mientrasque el producto del gen nprb presentahomolog\u00edacon nitrorreductasas no caracterizadas.  se ha estudiado la regulaci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n de los genes npra y nprb mediante fusiones transcripcionales con el gen lacz. La expresion del gen nprb es constitutiva mientras que la expresi\u00f3n del gen npra es inducible por diferentes compuestos arom\u00e1ticos y heteroc\u00edclicos, entre ellos el 2, 4-dinitrofenol, el 2,4,6-trinitrofenol, el salicilato y el paraquat, lo que indica que npra podr\u00eda pertenecer al regul\u00f3n marlsoxlrob. Adem\u00e1s, npra presenta en su promotor secuencias muy similares a las cajas marlsoxlrob. El gen npra s\u00f3lo se expresa en presencia de los inductores, pero el amonio produce una disminuci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n a\u00fan en presencia de \u00e9stos. Adem\u00e1s,  el amonio causa un inhibici\u00f3n de la actividad nitrorreductasa y del consumo de polinitrofenoles in vivo, probablemente porque afecta al sistema de transportede estos compuestos al interior celular.  la prote\u00edna npra de r. Capsulatus se ha sobreexpresado en e. Coli unida a una cola de polihistidinas, y se ha purificado por cromatograf\u00eda de afinidad. la prote\u00edna purificada mostr\u00f3 actividad con diferentes compuestos arom\u00e1ticos y heteroc\u00edclicos utilizados por otras nitrorreductasas.
